Resetting your Webmail email password is important for account security and useful if a user forgets their login credentials. This guide explains two methods to reset an email account password: through the cPanel dashboard and, if enabled by your hosting provider, through the Webmail login page.

If you or someone else needs to reset the password of an email account created in cPanel, this guide walks you through two options: resetting it through the cPanel dashboard (most common) or, if enabled, using the Webmail login page.

Prerequisites

  • Access to your cPanel account (URL, username, password)

  • Administrative privileges (you must be the owner of the hosting account)

  • An existing email account created in cPanel

Method 1: Reset Password via cPanel Dashboard

Step 1: Log in to your cPanel account.
Example URL: https://yourdomain.com:2083

Step 2: Go to Email Accounts under the Email section

Step 3: Find the email account you want to update.
Scroll down to see the list of existing email accounts and click Manage next to the desired address.

Step 4: Enter a new password
In the Security section:

  • Type in a new secure password manually or

  • Click Generate to create a random strong password

Confirm the password if prompted.

Step 5: Click Update Email Settings.
Your changes will be saved, and the email password is now reset.

You can now log in to Webmail or your email client using the new password.

Method 2: Reset Password via Webmail Login Page (if available)

This method only works if your hosting provider allows password recovery via the Webmail interface.

Step 1: Go to your Webmail login page.
Example: https://yourdomain.com/webmail

Step 2: Click on Forgot Password? or Reset Password (if the link is visible).

Step 3: Enter your email address.

Step 4: Follow the instructions in the email sent to your recovery address (or alternate email, if configured).

Step 5: Enter a new password when prompted.

If this option isn’t available, please use Method 1 through cPanel.

After Resetting – What to Do Next

Once your password is changed:

  1. Log into Webmail with the new password.

  2. Update your email clients (Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, mobile apps) with the new password.

  3. If you use SMTP/IMAP in your settings, make sure to update those credentials to avoid sending or receiving errors.

Tips for Creating a Strong Password

Use these guidelines for maximum security:

  • Minimum 12 characters

  • Include uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols

  • Avoid dictionary words or personal information

  • Use the password generator provided in cPanel

Troubleshooting

  • "Manage" button not visible in cPanel? - You may not have the necessary account permissions.

  • Reset link not working? - Clear your browser cache or try another browser.

  • Still having issues? - Contact your hosting provider’s support team for help.
