The Spam Threshold Score is a numerical value that determines how strictly the spam filter evaluates incoming emails. It assigns a score to each email based on various spam-detection criteria. If the email’s score meets or exceeds the threshold, it is marked as spam.

The default threshold is typically set to 5.

  • Lower scores (e.g., 3) make the filter more aggressive, potentially flagging more emails—including legitimate ones—as spam.

  • Higher scores (e.g., 7) make the filter more lenient, allowing more emails through, but possibly missing some spam.

In cPanel, you can adjust this score to balance between filtering out spam and ensuring that important messages aren’t missed.
