Web Disk accounts allow you to manage and organize your website’s files using a drag-and-drop interface. With Web Disk, you can connect directly to your server’s file system from your local device, similar to accessing files on your computer’s hard drive.
1. Accessing Web Disk in cPanel
-
Log in to your cPanel account.
-
In the Files section, click Web Disk.
2. Creating a Web Disk Account
- Under Create an Additional Web Disk Account, fill in the following:
-
Username: Choose a name for the account.
-
Domain: If you manage more than one domain, select the appropriate one from the drop-down list.
-
Directory: This is the folder the user will have access to. The default is the user's home directory, but you can set a specific path (e.g., /public:html/images).
-
Permissions:
-
Read-Write: Allows viewing, uploading, editing, and deleting files.
-
Read-Only: Allows viewing files, but not modifying them.
-
-
Password: Enter and confirm a strong password.
-
- Click Create to finish.
3. Configuring Web Disk on Your Device
After creating the account, you can set it up on your local machine:
-
cPanel provides configuration scripts for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
-
Under Main Web Disk Account, click Configure Client Access.
-
Select your operating system and follow the provided instructions to connect the Web Disk account to your file manager (e.g., File Explorer, Finder, etc.).
Note: Web Disk uses WebDAV protocol. Ensure your system supports WebDAV and that necessary services (like SSL/TLS) are enabled.
4. Managing Existing Web Disk Accounts
To manage existing accounts:
-
In the Web Disk interface, scroll to Web Disk Accounts.
-
For each account, you can:
-
Change Password: Update the account’s login credentials.
-
Modify Permissions: Switch between read-write and read-only access.
-
Delete: Remove the account if it’s no longer needed.
-
5. Troubleshooting Common Issues
If you’re having trouble connecting:
-
Double-check the username and password.
-
Make sure your operating system supports WebDAV connections.
-
Review local firewall or antivirus settings that may be blocking the connection.
-
Use SSL/TLS for secure access if available.
