At Lanetti, we strive to make domain management easy and efficient as your online presence grows. One useful feature is domain parking, which allows you to point additional domain names to your main website. This can help capture traffic from similar domain names, secure brand variations, or prepare domains for future use. This guide explains what domain parking is, why it's helpful, and how to park a domain using cPanel.

What Is Domain Parking?

Domain parking allows you to associate an additional domain name with your main domain, so that both domains display the same content. It's commonly used when:

  • You own multiple variations of your domain (e.g., .com, .net, .org) and want them to point to the same website.

  • You're securing a domain for future development.

  • You're redirecting older or alternate domains to your active site.

Example: If your primary domain is example.com, and you park example.net, then visiting example.net will show the same website as example.com.

Note: A parked domain does not redirect users with a visible redirect (like a 301 redirect). Instead, it loads the same content while keeping its own domain in the browser's address bar.

Before You Begin

To successfully park a domain, make sure:

  • You already own the domain you want to park.

  • The domain’s DNS (nameservers) are pointed to the same server as your primary domain (usually your hosting provider’s nameservers).

  • Your hosting plan allows domain aliases or parked domains.

How to Park a Domain in cPanel

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

  1. Open your browser and go to your cPanel login URL: https://yourdomain.com/cpanel.

  2. Enter your cPanel username and password.

  3. Click Log In.

Step 2: Access the Domain Parking Feature

  1. In the cPanel dashboard, scroll to the Domains section.

  2. Click Aliases. (In some cPanel versions, this may be labeled as Parked Domains.)

Step 3: Add the Parked Domain

  1. In the Create a New Alias field, enter the domain name you want to park (e.g., example.net).

  2. Click Add Domain.

  3. cPanel will check if the domain's DNS is pointed to the correct nameservers. If not, it will display an error.

  4. If successful, the domain will be added and parked on top of your primary domain.

Step 4: Test the Parked Domain

Open a browser and type in the parked domain (e.g., example.net). It should load the same content as your primary domain. The URL in the address bar will remain the parked domain.

How to Remove a Parked Domain

If you no longer want to park a domain:

  1. Go to the Aliases (or Parked Domains) section in cPanel.

  2. Find the domain you want to remove in the list.

  3. Click Remove next to the domain name.

  4. Confirm the deletion.

Tips and Notes

  • Parked domains are useful for brand protection and misspelling capture (e.g., exampl.com → example.com).

  • If you want visitors to be redirected to another domain with a URL change (e.g., for SEO purposes), use the Redirects tool instead.

  • DNS changes may take time to propagate (up to 24–48 hours), so a parked domain might not work immediately after DNS update.
