What Is Web Disk?

Web Disk (also known as WebDAV) is a cPanel feature that lets you access and manage files in your hosting account through your operating system’s file manager (e.g., Finder on macOS or File Explorer on Windows). Once configured, you can drag, drop, and modify files on your server just like working with local files.

By default, each Web Disk account requires a username and password. These credentials provide a layer of protection. However, it’s important to manage them carefully and ensure users only have access to the directories they need.

How to Set Up and Password Protect the Web Disk

Step 1: Log in to Your cPanel.

1. Open a browser and go to: https://yourdomain.com/cpanel.

2. Enter your username and password, then click Log in.

Step 2: Access the Web Disk Tool.

1. In the cPanel dashboard, scroll to the Files section.

2. Click Web Disk to open the management interface.

Step 3: Create a Web Disk Account (if needed).

If you haven’t created a separate Web Disk user:

1. Under Create a Web Disk Account, fill in:

   • Username – A unique name for the user.

   • Password – A secure password (or use the generator).

   • Directory – The folder the user should access (e.g., public_html or a subfolder).

   • Permissions – Choose:

     • Read-Write – Full access (upload, edit, delete).

     • Read-Only – View-only access.

2. Click Create to finish.

Note: The primary cPanel user also has Web Disk access to the home directory.

How to Change or Secure Passwords for Existing Web Disk Users

If you've already created a Web Disk user and want to update or secure their credentials:

1. Scroll down to Existing Accounts.

2. Find the account you want to update.

3. Click Change Password or Manage.

4. Enter a new strong password (use the generator if needed).

5. Click Change Password to save.

Now your Web Disk user account is protected by a new password.

How to Access Web Disk with Password Protection

Once the Web Disk user is configured:

1. Return to the Web Disk section in cPanel.

2. Under your user account, click Access Web Disk.

3. Follow the instructions for your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux).

4. During setup, enter the Web Disk username and password when prompted.
