Deleting a subdomain in cPanel is a straightforward task that can help clean up or reorganize your hosting environment. You might remove a subdomain if it’s no longer in use, part of an outdated site section, or if you're consolidating resources. This guide walks you through the steps to delete a subdomain and manage any related files.

Steps to Delete a Subdomain in cPanel

1. Log in to cPanel

  • Open your browser and go to your cPanel login page, such as yourdomain.com/cpanel.

  • Enter your username and password.

  • After logging in, you’ll be taken to the cPanel dashboard.

2. Open the Subdomains Tool

  • In the cPanel dashboard, scroll to the Domains section.

  • Click Subdomains.

3. Find the Subdomain You Want to Delete

  • You’ll see a list of all existing subdomains for your account.

  • Locate the one you want to delete by checking the name and associated root directory.

4. Delete the Subdomain

  • Next to the subdomain you want to remove, click Remove.

  • Confirm the deletion when prompted.

  • This action removes the subdomain from your domain configuration, but does not delete the files associated with it.

5. Remove Subdomain Files (Optional)

  • To clean up storage space, go to File Manager in cPanel.

  • Navigate to the folder corresponding to the subdomain (typically under public_html/subdomainname).

  • Delete the folder if it is no longer needed.

6. Confirm the Deletion

  • Return to the Subdomains section to ensure the subdomain is no longer listed.

  • You can also check by trying to access the subdomain in your browser to verify that it no longer resolves.
